My boiler (Ideal ICOS), is a little on the loud side, when igniting....... bad day explode
:O
This only occurs when the Hot Water is on (Bigger flame, I believe?)
this really doesn't seem normal to me, so whats going on?

Loud as in what sort of noise? When was it last serviced, and what was done?
A good service and clean never goes amiss usually.

Sounds like you need a heating engineer if its making a lot of noise like that something is wrong with it. Have you got the manual that came with it might give you some ideas or you may be able to download one.

If it lights with a "Whoomph"; then the problem is probably to do with the modulator on the gas valve.
I had a similar problem on my Ravenheat - my "tame" service engineer couldn`t find it, "well, it`s electronic you see". No, really?
There should be a pair of spade terms, or a small 2 pin plug to the gas valve - carries (4-32VDC ? IIRC) which modulates the flow of gas - once it`s got confirmation of main burner ignition, the valve should steadily open to the level the logic calls for. Sounds like yours may be sticking?
Sorry I can`t be of more use - prob`ly JL`ll know more

If it has explosive ignition get an engineer out to it mate....
Its prolly just a case of clean it and adjust the gas pressures.

could be a leaking gas valve thats pasing on the pilot assembly.
when the boiler is off smell outside in the flue is there a gas smell ??
the boom is the pilot lighting or main flame and igniting in the burner chamber.
dont spend any money on an icos they are the worse boiler ever made seriously.
we pull them out after 3 years and scrap them ... the last 1 had 3 new pcb boards in 3 years.
anything but ideal ... i mean anything......

OK, so the Heating engineer arrived this afternoon..
Knew what the problem was (Ignition electrode problem), sorted that.
Put the casing of the boiler back on and switched on..................
Little did he know, that he'd trapped one of the gas valve supply cables:_|
And blew up the supply form the control pcb...bad day explode
So no Heating or Hot water tonight...:_|

So, lets make sure we have this straight.
1. It was lighting, albeit noisily.
2. "Heating engineer" arrives, does his "thing" and leaves.
3. Now it doesn`t work at all.
Most (young John excepted) visits from heating engineers turn out like this, don`t they???
Hope they fix it quick, mate.

Don't worry he won't have much trouble sourcing a new board... the merchants are normally well stocked (See JL's post)
